Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia is one of the most common causes of hair loss among black women and though It may sound unfamiliar, it could be affecting you or someone that you know, today.

 What is Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia [CCCA]?

CCCA –also known as ‘Hot Comb Alopecia’ -- is a form of scarring alopecia [group of diseases that destroy hair follicles] that can lead to permanent hair loss if left untreated.

Hot Comb Alopecia or CCCA usually targets your crown and over time, causes the affected area to keep expanding into a larger circle of lost hair. However, most affected women tend to lose their hair faster than others.

C.C.C.A. Symptoms

The symptoms of CCCA will also vary per person. Some women with CCCA, may experience burning, scarring, itching, swelling, or discomfort. Other women may experience no symptoms at all. To be proactive, perhaps you should consider seeing your trichologist or dermatologist for a proper diagnosis.

What about CCCA in 2023?

Want to Know If You’re At Risk?

While the symptoms of CCCA vary from one person to person, you’re more likely to experience;

  • Burning/tingling sensations
  • Itchiness
  • Discomforts
  • Swelling/scalp tenderness
  • Scarring

But there's also the possibility that you might not experience any of these symptoms at all. That’s why you should act proactively by scheduling a visit with your dermatologist or trichologist.

But, Here’s What You Can Do About CCCA

If you suspect that you’re affected or believe you're prone to this hair disease, you should see a hair doctor who is well versed in CCCA immediately.

This way, you can detect and treat the disease in its early stages before it does any further damage to your hair follicles. Your scalp will get treated with anti-inflammatory agents that prevent further hair loss and follicle damage.

Here at Nina Ross Hair Therapy, helping you have a healthy scalp and hair is what we do. We've worked with dozens of people suffering from CCCA and each time we've been able to calm inflammation and stop the spread.
